Dermatology is the study and science of diseases of the skin, hair and nails. This specialty includes cosmetic surgery, phototherapy, laser therapy, radiotherapy, liposurgery, dermatologic surgery as well as prescriptive therapy both systemic and topical. A dermatologist must first complete 4 to 6 years of general college, 4 years of medical school, 1 year internship, and 3 years in a dermatologic residency. Training continues throughout a career with continuing education credits achieved through courses and conferences.
